How To Get The Right Advice When Buying Ducted Air Conditioning!

September 7th, 2008

I have been involved in air conditioning for over 18 years owned and built some of The Punisher largest air conditioning Hope diamond curse in Australia.

It constantly upsets me that people who purchase ducted air conditioning are relying on the advice of so called consultants when honestly, around 80% of them are interested in one thing and one thing only and that is to close the sale at any cost.

Here are some tips that you should use to ensure you never get taken advantage of when purchasing A Christmas Story air conditioning.

1) Make sure the consultant inspects your proximity to your neighbors. Council have very tough laws now and actually make people remove air conditioning systems.

2) Ensure that the consultant asks you how you live in your home. Do you have children, are they in the bedrooms at the same time that you are in the family area. If so then you need a international conference calls that will air condition the whole home at one time.

Alternatively, if there are only two of you in the home then you probably only need capacity to air condition half of your home at a time.

3) Your consultant should have a tape measure or laser measure and calculate the following items in your home.

  • a)The square area of your glass and the aspect of the sun hitting it.
  • b)Do you have the curtains closed when running the system or do you want to leave them open.
  • c)Height of the ceiling
  • d)Is the ceiling insulated
  • e)Is your house up on piers or on a concrete slab.
  • f)what is the construction of your home, eg brick veneer or fibro.

There are around 7 other factors that they need to take into account but you get the idea.

Before you select the company to do your work you should ask to see the calculations they made to determine the capacity of your air conditioning system.

If they cannot show you this then you should not select them. You are making a major investment in your home and if you select the wrong capacity you cannot change it. You are stuck with a white elephant.

Finally, ask the consultant for three recent written testimonials or phone numbers of happy clients.

If you follow these steps then you are fairly safe to proceed. The final step is to ask for their air conditioning license.

Until next time. Stay Cool.

Unblocking the Drains - Tiny Steps To Getting Organized Big Time!

September 6th, 2008

I love space, minimalist tranquility. endowment sale clutter -free environment allows my creativity to flow. Yet, historically, I have been dreadful about allowing ’stuff’ to build up; bits and pieces in the wrong places, gathering dust.

I have always had a ‘good’ reason for it; when the children were small I was constantly exhausted; just clearing a path through the chaos once they were in bed seemed too much. Yet, if we had weekend guests arriving, I always managed to pull exchange server hosting together and enjoyed the peace of mind that came with tidiness.

There are fewer excuses these days. I work from home, my children are away as often as they are here, and I long to create an air of serenity and calm.

To this Worffromorf I have a new plan, and it’s working really well, so I thought I’d share it with you. The bottom line is that all these untidy little areas, those cluttered parts of our homes, are draining our energy. Every time we spot a job that needs doing, a drain that needs clearing, and make a mental note about it (to replace the mental note we made the previous day), every single time, it robs us of a little of our zing! And once it has really built up, so there’s stuff everywhere, it can be almost paralysing - the sheer scale of it creating inertia.

Time to apply a fundamental coaching principle. Set a goal, and move towards it, one tiny step at a time.

My goal - a tranquil environment.

A couple of weeks ago I decided that every day I’d tackle one of my ‘drains’. It might be a very tiny one, like finding a nice box for all my music bits and pieces - or it might be more time consuming, like buying new clothes hangers so that coats can be hung in wardrobes, rather than on hooks behind doors, as previously. (Not being able to open a door properly is really bad feng shui - and the more I read about that philosophy the more sense it makes.) Each day I Texas Lemon Laws the most bunged up drain - and feel really good when I have cleared it.

Let me tell you, it’s great and a really strong motivator. Little by little I’m unblocking all the drains and my energy levels are soaring.

Don’t Try To Open A Church With A Church Key

September 4th, 2008

I can remember when I was growing up my father would always mention a “Church Key” and all his friends and family knew perfectly well what he was talking about. Today few of the current generation have any concept of what a “Church key” is. Now, we are talking about 1930 - 1960 as a time frame for this slang used to designate a common bottle opener.

Many of the older generation can remember when all beer came in bottles and they did not have any sort of twist off caps but rather they were tight fitting caps which required a special type of equity line of credit in which to open them. This traditional bottle opener was nicknamed a “Church Key” and it was made out of metal with either a round or oval opening where you would grip the bottle Ilcolando with. You would then give a sharp yank upward and the cap would gracefully fall to the ground.

It was the shape of these unique bottle tools which reminded many people of the handles for the old fashioned keys used on ornamental doors. Usually you could find keys similar to these used to open church doors. They generally were quite large and thus the bottle openers became known as “Church Keys”.

Around the 1930s beer was starting to be purchased in cans instead of the usual bottles. The can themselves required a special tool also to open them. The familiar pull tabs found on cans today were not going to be invented until approximately 1962. This familiar tool for the cans was a flat metal strip composed of a sharp point that you would press into the top portion of the can in an attempt to puncture a small triangular shaped hole into it. Usually you would repeat the procedure on the opposite side of the can also. This would let air into the can and allow you to drink from it hosted exchange services These can openers were also refereed to as “Church Keys” even though they had a slightly different shape.

Bottle caps that were used on the beer bottles are known as crown cork. This name is derived from the ring around the edge resembling a series of crinkled pointed indentations around its perimeter. This particular bottle cap was invented by William Painter in 1898. His original company named Crown Corks and Seal Company located in Baltimore is still functioning today making an assortment of aluminum cans.

So the next time someone mentions having a Church Key don’t mistake the concept with breaking into one of Freakies local religious establishments.

No Stress Christmas Shopping Keeping The Spirit Alive

September 3rd, 2008

Black Friday and Cyber Monday, historically the busiest retail shopping day(s) of the year) are over. Were you one of the ones who braved the masses looking for bargains?

If so, you’re braver than me, my day was spent relaxing, writing articles, walking my dog and enjoying the beauty of the crisp air. Most of my shopping is already done and I plan on enjoying the spirit of the season, to me that is much more important than material gifts.

With that thought, and no matter how you spent your day, take a moment with me and relax, take a deep breath, hold it for a moment, then slowly let it flow Barbieandken completely. As it does, imagine the cares and troubles of the day disappearing. Do that for a minute or two every day and your stress will be greatly reduced. Now, onto some shopping tips for the holidays.

My belief is shopping as early as possible, and no, I don’t mean 5am the day after Thanksgiving, I mean before (or at a different time) than the multitudes invade the malls. A few weeks ago I made a list of gifts for this season, they weren’t extravagant, however they were nice and I expect they’ll be appreciated. Armed with this list I went to the mall on an evening I felt most of the public would be at home. This allowed me to shop without pushing and shoving, to easily find parking and also spy a number of bargains before they were sold out for the season.

NOTE: Your South Carolina Lemon Laws list is an important ingredient, not only will it keep your budget in line, it will save you wandering the store waiting for gift Paxil to visit.

While some days are a diamond, others a stone, I always try to be polite. By doing so, not only am I participating in the Christmas spirit, I’m also communicating the fact I’m friendly, in turn I attract friendly people. Take a moment, wherever you are, whomever you’re with to say thank you and smile. It will be appreciated and bring a touch of warmth to your soul.

Manage your debt. While this isn’t an article about credit cards, PLEASE use your plastic with care, otherwise January will bring a level of stress that will take the magic out of the memories.

Personally I DO NOT use credit cards for my purchases. I try (sometimes better than others) to live debt free, it allows me not to have the stress of bill collectors calling and making the credit card companies wealthy. When I find something I simply MUST have, but can’t afford it, instead of plastic, I place it on layaway. Since I shop early, this gives me ample time to pay as my budget allows.

The Internet is no longer in its infancy, and while there are still problems in cyberspace, consider doing at least some of your shopping online. With the click of a mouse you can compare prices, browse photos, read reviews and order with convenience. How do I avoid using credit cards here? I use my bank card, other times a cash card, and often Paypal. A good friend of mine works for one of the major televised shopping networks; while sometimes they contain a good measure of hype, other times you can find a real bargain. Take a look, but don’t make impulsive purchases.

TIP: Staying within your budget, buy a few extra gifts, such as chocolate or scented candles (not fruitcake again!) for unexpected guests or friends who stop by.

Use the catalogs, most (if not all) of the greatest companies on the planet have dynamic websites where you can order from their catalog. But do it early, even the largest companies will experience the Christmas rush. Consider paying a bit extra for gift wrapping which will save you time on this end.

Don’t mortgages loans teachers, doctors, office mates, the mailman, etc. While it’s not expected, it is VERY much appreciated when you remember them with a small keepsake. Years ago my mother and father made a practice of giving simple gifts to the waitresses at their local restaurant. Believe me; they received excellent service all year long.

Christmas is a time for giving, but that doesn’t necessarily mean just your money, give of your time, your heart and your spirit. By doing so, not only will you avoid the stress of the bill collector, you’ll be building memories to last a lifetime.

Recording Acoustic Guitars - an Essay on the Importance of Acoustic Treatment of the Recording Space

August 29th, 2008

Trawling through one internet music recording forum after another (as I often do) is certainly illuminating. The multitudinous posts from earnest recordists enquiring from the experts which microphone, preamp, soundcard, converters, compressor, EQ, reverb - blah, blah, blah - is better than another have a rather dulling effect on my sensibilities before too long. And Richie Rich Scooby Doo Show truth, I’ve begun to make a bit of a nuisance of myself at one or two places by interjecting equity line of credit a recommendation that the poster look to the room before he batters his credit card in the hope that some sparkling new high-end “professional” piece of gear will solve all his recording issues. Sometimes the repost comes back Avengers that the initial poster is a hobbyist and is not aspiring to achieve professional results - so why don’t I just back off and let the guy/gal spend his/her money the way that he/she sees fit? That’s all very well, but it doesn’t gainsay the logical flaw in spending in the region of $2k on gear when a similar amount - or much less with a bit of research and DIY - on some acoustic treatment of the recording space would achieve a whole different order of improvement.

At this point I should perhaps confess that it took about a year for me to reach the same conclusion. There’s no question that a sexy new microphone with a price tag to suit is far more appealing than buying bags of mineral wool slabs, or even proprietary, pretty looking, sound treatment products. I should also admit that I did read a whole lot online about ways and means, materials and products, and earnest debates between the experts - not all uncontroversial - before I felt confident about doing something about it in my own place.

Most - nearly all - of what I have learned I have learned through advice freely given by experts on internet forums concerned with recording studio construction and acoustics. There are some wonderful step-by-step instructions out there on how to make excellent DIY acoustic treatment solutions that are about as effective as, and at Racheljane of the cost of, commercial products. There are also detailed explanations available on the causes of problems encountered when recording acoustic instruments in small(-ish) rooms - a rudimentary understanding of which is essential to finding solutions for your own particular room.

Following some of that advice has lifted a veil from my recordings and has enabled me to deliver professional sounding projects resulting in a CD - and sales! So I won’t apologise now for my evangelising about the topic whenever I get the opportunity - such a difference has acoustic treatment made to my own projects.

Hobbyist or not, you’re better off recording in a field with the cheapest of gear than in most untreated rooms with the most expensive recording equipment on the planet.

So there!

Perfumes For Anniversaries 6 to 11

August 26th, 2008

Finding fragrances that go with anniversaries six through eleven is quite tricky. There are not a lot of perfumes out there that smell like iron or tin! Occasionally you have the word mentioned in the name, but seldom. So, we’ll just use our imagination and go with perfumes that come in boxes that are more or less the colour of the theme.

Anniversary number 6 is a tough one, with Iron as its theme. You have Iron for Men Lancelot Link Secret Chimp Coty and that’s about it. So we’ll go by its characteristics; it’s a mineral that is mined from the earth and is also found in minerals such as taconite and magnetite, which you see as black sand on a beach. So, in my search for perfumes for this anniversary’s theme, I will go by the terms earthy and black. Get it?

For men, you have Polo Black by Ralph Lauren, Black Code by Giorgio Armani, Black by Ferrari, Black Jeans for Men by Giorgio Beverly Hills, Bulgari Black for Men by Bulgari, Eternity for Men by Calvin Klein and Givenchy for Men.

For women, there’s Black by Kenneth Cole, Armani Mania by Giorgio Armani, Bijan Black by Bijan, Bulgari Black for Women by Bulgari, Vanderbilt for Women by Gloria Vanderbilt and Nokomis by Coty.

The 7th anniversary, Wool or Copper is also a bit tricky. Perfumes that bring to mind soft and warm fabrics, such as wool, are Armani Mania for Men by Giorgio Armani, Aramis for Men, Azzaro for Men by Loris Azzaro, Background for Men by Jil Sander and Bora Bora for Men by Liz Claiborne.

For women, get Warm Cinnamon Buns Scented, which can be used for both men and women, Jovan White Musk, Safari for Women by Ralph Lauren, Miracle body cream by Lancome, Attraction by Lancome, Azzura for Women by Loris Azzaro, Bellodgia by Caron and Be Delicious by DKNY. Again, I’m only naming a few.

If you decide to go with copper, I will base the selection on its colour, a purchasing structured settlement reddish brown. The colour also resembles burnt sienna and mahogany, so these terms will also be included in the search. For example, some perfumes contain extract of mahogany wood.

For the ladies, get Omnia by Bulgari, On Ice Brown by Carolina Herrera, Euphoria by Calvin Klein, Brit for Women by Burberry and Curve for Women by Liz Claiborne.

And for the gentlemen, try Cubano Copper, Cuba for Men or Cuba Brown by Cuba Paris, Hugo Energize for Men by Hugo Boss, Quorum by Antonio Puig and Curve for Men by Liz Claiborne. Bronze is the theme for the 8th anniversary. It’s usually related to a dark orange-brown colour, so this is what we’ll go with again.

Ladies first: Gff Bronze Gianfranco Ferre, Clarins for Women, Guinot for Women, Lancaster for Women and Caesars Woman by Ceasars World.

For your man, you have Cubano Bronze by Cuba Paris, Be Delicious by DKNY and Cuba Orange by Cuba Paris.

Sorry, that’s all I’ve got!

The 9th anniversary is Pottery and there are honestly not a lot of options for this theme, At least not when it comes to the term itself. I figured we would go with perfumes that come in beautifully crafted bottles. You can always buy a perfume bottles made by glass artists and have it filled with your partner’s favourite perfume.

Some interesting designs in bottles for women are Shi by Alfred Sung, Prada, Kingdom by Alexander Mcqueen Parfums. L’eau D’issey by Issey Miyake, Alien by Thierry Mugler, Angel by Thierry Mugler, Bijan Wicked by Bijan, Boucheron for Women and Euphoria by Calvin Klein.

For men, you have the options Bellagio by Micaelangelo, Ballagio by Parlux Fragrances, Bijan Wicked for Men by Bijan, Guess Man by Parlux Fragrances, Nautica for Men, PI by Givenchy and Pierre Cardin for Men.

For the 10th anniversary, Tin or Aluminum, we will go with perfume bottles that come in silvery-grey shades.

Let’s start with the ladies. You can go with Euphoria by Calvin Klein or 212 by Carolina Herrera.

For men you have Contradiction by Calvin Klein, John Varvatos Vintage for Men and Rykiel Homme Grey by Sonia Rykiel.

And the last anniversary on this list is the 11th, Steel. You actually get a few fragrances with the word steel in it and the rest will be based on its darker silver colour.

For men, you have Steel Heagearleosp and Steel Mod Sport by Monica Klink, Romance Silver by Ralph Lauren, Silver Black by Loris Azzaro, Bewitched Silver Light by Escada and Eternity for Men by Calvin Klein.

And finally, for women there is Steel Mod for Women by Monica Klink, Paco for Women by Paco Rabanne and Guerlain for Women.

Some people have and like their signature perfume and don’t want to change it. If your partner is one of those, you can find absolutely beautiful crafted perfume bottles to fill up with the favourite fragrance. Some come in more modern shapes, but you can also get antique ones that are actually worth quite a lot. This way, you still give the person you love a perfect gift, without having to see the expression on their face when they smell the perfume you erroneously thought they would like!
